COLOR YOUR LIFE
Color Schemes & Ideas for Home Furnishings
& our Yearly view of Bridal & Evening Fashions
Color in our lives:-
Is, as important as eating. Did you know that we eat with our eyes. Food colors and the decoration of finished foods stimulate us mentally and make eating enjoyable.
The same applies to color within our homes. Imagine for one moment, entering a room on a gloomy day, or, a room that gets very little natural light. The colors within this room are gray, white and a small amount of blue.
Your first impression would be the feeling of coldness and sitting in this room would also make you feel lethargic.
Let us now reverse this situation. Imagine a room that faces south and it gets a lot of sun/natural light. The color scheme is very vibrant, reds, yellow and maybe orange. Yes this is a cheerful room by color but not a room to relax and feel comfortable in.
Understanding color is vital in creating and choosing your color scheme successfully.
So, remember color changes our moods, and keeping this in mind, choose wisely and a successful color scheme will be yours to enjoy.
Do not be afraid to try new ideas, work with a color palette or color wheel which you can obtain from the Internet as shown below, with some advice on techniques.

Fabric was a remnant, just right in color and design for this room.
The curtain pole was a Sale item, with glass crystal ball ends.
10 euros in a Sale.. 4 Crystal beads and 2 hours of working the project.
2 simple cushions and a tassel, Not too busy and easy on the eye.
Sometimes it is too easy to over do a room with soft furnishing patterns. Take your time, do one thing at a time if you are not too sure.
VALANCES
Platform, Valance Sheet or Valance Surround.
Depends on your bed. The picture to the left shows a bed
valance that is simply pinned to the surrounding base.
This was created to enable the client to still be able to use her bed quilt which was previously used on a smaller bed.
On a wider bed it did not go to the floor so we made a dummy surround and the finished article was pleasing.
Also this style is best to use on a bed that lifts up to allow storage below the mattress.

Making Changes
To your room need not be expensive.
Have a color in mind and use the wheel below. Change the feel of the room with an added valance to your window. Old World charm or Modern , it is your choice. Consider the color you wish to add, that will accentuate the curtains or carpet. Make it a plain fabric or a contrast with stripes/floral/paisley. Buttoned or bowed, straight or curved. Line with a different color fabric so that you could reverse it or let the lining show in your design. Lots of ideas are showing on the right hand side, and this can all be achieved at a low cost. Use some of the fabric by making cushion covers or a throw. Maybe the fabric could be used to make Tie Backs your options are many. Go to Free and Easy Patterns for more details on making a Valance |

Color Wheel Theory:
A great tool to design your Home and Garden.
Enter the color wheel theory. A simple concept but if understood will enable you design breath taking color combinations in your home and office.
Color is necessary for architecture and design. So getting it right is very important although it can be the most difficult conclusion to reach.
People from different areas working within architecture, designers inside and outside of the home or office have used the theory of the Color Wheel.
It is possible for you to do the same, with just a little knowledge and practice, you will find your color scheme.
There are times in your life when you have stared at a magazine picture and your mind screamed 'fabulous' at the photos of designer rooms. You may have wondered how they have created such breath taking color combinations. You would love to be able to make your room exactly like that, but,you do not have the finances or even know where to begin. You watch the television and see all these wonderful creations made by experts, that you know full well you could not hire to do the job for you.
What exactly is the Color Wheel Theory?
The construction of the color wheel is very easy when you first see this.
You have 6 basic colors: yellow, orange, red, purple, green, and blue. You also have more colors that are mixes of the basic colors. In the color wheel theory there are certain color combinations which can be identified on the wheel, which, when used together give a feel of harmony to the human eye.
Identifying harmonious colors
Harmonious color combination use any two colors opposite to each other on the color wheel, any three colors equally spaced around the color wheel forming a triangle, or any four colors forming a rectangle. These harmonious color combinations are called color schemes.
Below you will read of four schemes that are most commonly used -
Monochromatic Color Scheme:- The monochromatic color scheme uses just one color in variations of lightness and saturation . This scheme gives you a clean and elegant room setting, also a relaxing effect is produced. For example dark brown furniture on beige carpets or tiles.
Analogous Color Scheme:- are made up of colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. Some examples are green, light green, and yellow or red, orange and yellow.
Complementary Color Scheme:- are colors opposite each other on the color wheel, such as blue and orange, red and green, purple and yellow.
When using these side by side, it makes each other appear much brighter.
Finally The Triadic Color Scheme:- uses three colors that are equal distance apart on the color wheel, such as red, yellow and blue or using secondary colors yellow-green, blue-violet, and red-orange.
Using the color wheel practically
First of all you need to make your own color wheel. Alternatively there is specialized software on the internet which shows you color combinations.
Simply make use of the above color schemes. Now is your chance to use your creativity. The color wheel can be broken down into many sub colors. So if you think Blue curtains would look good in your room, you must think which sub shade of Blue is best suited for your scheme.
